11th Glyco@Event with Koichiro Awai
on the March 13, 2019
At 2:30 p.m.
Koichiro Awai from Shizuoka University (Japan) is the 11th invited speaker participating to the Glyco@Events. The event will take place on Wednesday, March 13th at Cermav, Chartreuse room.
The 11th Glyco@Event will take place at Cermav on Wednesday, March 13th from 2:30 pm. The invited speaker is Koichiro Awai, who will give a talk on “Galactolipids in thylakoid membranes: Why galactose?”. Two young glycoscientists from Glyco@Alps will kick off the event with a short talk.
Thylakoid membranes are the place for photosynthesis and 80 mol% of their membrane lipids are occupied by galactolipids, monogalactosyldiacylglycerol and digalactosyldiacylglycerol. Why galactose? To answer this question, we are using cyanobacteria as a model system. Our recent progress on the research for significance of galactolipids in the photosynthetic membranes will be presented.
