Feedback on the Virtual Structural Glycoscience Summer School 2020
on the June 23, 2020
The Virtual Structural Glycoscience Summer School took place on June 17th and 18th, 2020. The event gathered 46 participants from all over Europe. The Summer School was co-organized by Glyco@Alps and the SynBIOcarb European network. For the first time the event was online.
The training event began with Serge Perez (Cermav, France) talking about strucutures and database, Annabelle Varrot (Cermav, France) on protein-glycan X-ray cristallography and Tony Molinaro (University of Napoli, Italy) on NMR in Glycosciences. The afternoon was devoted to virtual tutorials. After François Bonnardel (Glyco@alps student, Cermav, France & SIB, Switzerland) demonstrated Unilectin3D, Serge Perez (Mr Glycopedia), instructed the students how to build oligosaccharides in real time with Glyco3D and Polys. The first day ended by a virtual wine and cheese party and nice chats.
During the second day, the participants enjoyed Bruce Turnbull (University of Leeds, UK) ‘s talk on titration microcalorimetry and Ralf Richter (University of Leeds, UK) ’s presentations on solid phase binding assays. Elisa Fadda (Maynooth University, Ireland) gave the course on deciphering the mysteries of glycan dynamics by modeling the glycolandscape. In the aftneroon, she ran a very successful tutorial on modeling and molecular dynamics, with the help of Martin Lepsik (Cermav).
During these 2 days, several virtual chat rooms were organized to let people interact during the virtual coffee break and lunch.
