Conference : Exploring carbohydrate-binding preferences in fungal pathogens: towards glycoconjugates as anti-virulence agents and diagnostics in fungal infections

Dr Trinidad Velasco-Torrijos (Maynooth University, Ireland)

Chronic fungal infections affect over 150 million individuals. These infections can have a huge impact on immunocompromised and vulnerable populations. Opportunistic fungal pathogens such as C. albicans and A. fumigatus have been classified as critical priority pathogens by the World Health Organization. We are currently investigating how the carbohydrate-binding preferences for these and other fungal pathogens can lead to the development of antiadhesive-glycoconjugates and diagnostics in fungal infection
